Bowring Park in St. John’s

13 Sep, 2012

Bowring Park is a beautiful park located in central St. John’s filled with duck ponds, recreational and theatrical facilities and tons of green space and plant life. There are also many monuments in the park including a couple war memorials.

It is said that during the first World War Newfoundlanders travelled to Great Britain and charmed many of the ladies, some of whom wed only to become widows before the end of the war. The men would brag of the beauty of Bowring Park to their ladies. After the war, many of them made the long travel to Newfoundland just to see the park.

I would love a source if anyone has more information.
